Tread Garage
Tyre – change or repair …?

I recently woke up and set off to work, only to be presented with a flat tyre.

On inspection, I noticed a nail stuck in the tread and tootled off to a garage. On everybody elses advice I opted to repair it for 10 Euros rather thank shell out 80odd for a new one.

Anyway, 2 days down the line, I notice it is slowly, but noticeably going down again. There seems to be a rubbery goo coming from (presumeably) where the nail was.

What would your advice be:
1. repair again (assume the first guy just did a bad job)
2. change it (the more expansive option by far)

Ta
Fyi – it was a patch repair

If the “rubbery goo” is a thin white (almost) liquid type of substance, I would never take it back to that particular person for repair again as they have simply used an aerosol Tyre goo which is only designed for temporary repairs and should NEVER be used to permanently repair any puncture.

However, if the “rubbery goo” is a firm brown or red substance, this would indicate that the tyre has been repaired with a chemically vulcanising “plug” or cord. These things are normally very reliable and rarely leak. If they do leak, it would simply mean that the plug hasn’t vulcanised properly (through no fault of the repairer). If this is the case, take it back and normally, the attendants are only too happy to help out.

P.S. as long as the tyre is in reasonable condition, don’t replace it, it would be a waste of money.
